MBBS in Andhra Pradesh Review
In Andhra Pradesh state there are 19 Government medical colleges including one AIIMS in Manglagiri. There are 19 Private or Self Financing Medical Colleges including one Deemed University Gitam in Vishakhapatnam. There are 3260 Seats in Govt. Medical Colleges of Andhra Pradesh, after contributing 15% seats approx 489 MBBS Seats to All India Candidates, Rest 85% 2771 seats are reserved for Andhra Pradesh Candidates, whose counseling done by Dr. N.T.R. UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES, ANDHRA PRADESH, VIJAYAWADA. AIIMS Manglagiri 125 Open Seats are allotted to Candidates of any State through MCC. There are 18 Private Medical Colleges offering 3260 MBBS Seats, One Deemed Medical University named as GITAM in Vishakhapatnam offering 150 seats, which are open to all state candidates of India, whose counseling done by MCC.
Types of MBBS Seats in Andhra Pradesh
- Competent Authority (Self-financing) seats and Competent Authority (NRI Category) seats in new Government Medical Colleges permitted from the academic Year 2023-24 onwards.
- MANAGEMENT QUOTA [Category-B and Category-C (NRI)] seats in Private Un-aided Non-Minority and Minority Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges affiliated to Dr. NTRUHS.
- NRI Category seats in Sri Padmavathi Medical College for women (Under SVIMS), Tirupati.
Competent Authority (Self-financing) seats and Competent Authority (NRI Category) seats are reserved only for Andhra Pradesh State Domicile Candidates or those who qualify the admission eligibility criteria set by state competent Authority. Management Seats and NRI seats in Private Colleges of AP are distributed as per conditions set by the authorities.

Seat Sharing
- Government Medical Colleges permitted from 2023-24 after allocation of 15% of seats to All India Quota and out of the remaining seats, the Competent Authority (Self Financing) category and Competent Authority (NRI Category) shall be as follows:
- Competent Authority (Self-financing):35% of the seats shall be Competent Authority (Self-Financing) category.
- Competent Authority (NRI Category):15% of the seats shall be Competent Authority (NRI Category) competent authority.
- Un-aided Private Non-Minority Medical Colleges:
- CATEGORY - B: 35% OF INTAKE
- B1 - 15% of Category – B seats are open to the candidates from all over the Country and filled first by order of merit from the merit list of displayed under these regulations.
- B2 - 85% of Category – B seats shall be allotted to local candidates from Andhra Pradesh State only, i.e., by order of merit from the merit list.
- CATEGORY-C (NRI):15% of INTAKE open for all over country candidates as per their eligibility.
Eligibility Conditions
ELIGIBILITY TO “B1 -15%” OF CATEGORY – B SEATS: Candidates from all over the country are eligible for admission into “Cat-B1” seats under Management Quota in MBBS in Private Colleges as per Dr. NTRUHS regulations and filled first by order of merit from the merit list displayed under these regulations.
ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETENT AUTHORITY (SELF-FINANCING) SEATS AVAILABLE IN NEW GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGES PERMITTED FROM 2023-24 ONWARDS & “CATEGORY - B2 SEATS IN UN-AIDED PRIVATE NON-MINORITY MEDICAL COLLEGES:
- These seats shall be allotted to local candidates of two local areas of Andhra Pradesh State i.e. by order of merit from the merit list displayed under these regulations.
Eligibility Conditions in Respect of the Candidates Whose Local Status is Andhra Pradesh
LOCAL CANDIDATE OF ANDHRA PRADESH MEANS:
- Candidate who has studied 4 years in an educational institution preceding the qualifying examination in Andhra Pradesh. (OR)
- Candidate who has studied the maximum period (4 years) in Andhra Pradesh out of 7 years of study period in educational institution preceding the qualifying examination. (OR)
- If a candidate has not studied in educational institution but resided, then Candidate who has not studied in an educational institution but resided 4 years preceding the qualifying examination in Andhra Pradesh (OR)
- Candidate who has not studied in educational institution but has resided in Andhra Pradesh the maximum period out of 7 years preceding the qualifying examination (of residence)
